The Chateau Garden, Languedoc
Sir William Russell Flint

'The Chateau Garden, Languedoc
Signed, limited edition of 665
Published by J.W. Stacey in 1954

Russell Flint's well known penchant for "moving mountains" has been practised to good effect here. The steps, the railings, the doorway are all faithfully portrayed.
So too is the round pool, the only small point being that in reality they are perhaps twenty five yards apart!
It is still a beautifully maintained classical jardin - albeit updated with a heated swimming pool - and elsewhere within its bounds Russell Flint's licence has been further exercised in at least two unpublished watercolours.
The posthumously published "Giselle and Julietta" quite accurately portrays the gateway leading up into the gardens from the courtyard of the Kights Templar's wine vaults, the inside of which appears as "Strange Interior, Languedoc.
This was the first publication to feature his new model Cecilia Green."
