The painting is composed of the Park at Compiégne.
The statue of Achilles wounded in his famous heel by an arrow from that trouble-maker Paris.
We currently have a beautiful original watercolour titled La Port Chapelle, Compiegne
La Porte-Chapelle fut appelee d'abord porte de Choisy ou porte Saint-Nicolas, d'une chapelle voisine, puis la Connetable;
le connetable Anne de Montmorency ayant ete seigneur de Compiegne, de 1526 a 1567, quand elle fut amenagee dans l'etat actuel.
La decoration de la facade monumentale, du cote de la ville, attribuee a Philibert Delorme, parfois a Jean Bullant, fut restauree en 1876;
tandis que vers le faubourg la porte est flanquee de deux tours rondes (XIIe-XIIIe siecles).
Cette porte forme l'entree d'un passage voute long de cinquante-six metres; des soldats ennemis y furent tenus captifs a plusieurs reprises.
