'The Unseen Target'
Published by Frost and Reed in 1966
"'The Unseen Target' was a sack stuffed (I think) with hay.
It hung from an overhead beam and the bull's eye, or, as an
archer would call it, the 'gold', was a metal disk which clinked
pleasantly when an arrow struck it. The dish was loose and
swung with the impact without blunting the precious arrows.
Even without the bronzed young women the vault itself would have been well worth painting."
